Aloe Vera at Algarve Biofarm
An ancient plant, grown slowly in the Algarve countryside — from root to gel to the things we make with it.
Aloe vera is one of the oldest plants humans have worked with — valued for its cooling gel, its medicinal history, and its beauty as a living plant. At Algarve Biofarm, near Paderne, we grow aloe vera in open groves as part of our sustainable farm, and we invite guests to get to know the plant up close.
Where the gel really comes from
We walk you through the full journey of an aloe vera leaf — from how it's grown in open rows, to when and how it's harvested, to the way the outer leaf is opened and the clear inner gel is separated by hand.
Guests see each step slowly, without rush, and often surprise themselves with how different a fresh aloe leaf is from anything sold in a bottle.
From gel to everyday rituals
Aloe vera sits at the heart of many natural products — soothing gels, skin creams, soaps, massage candles, after-sun balms and gentle haircare. We share what the plant can become, how simple the recipes really are, and how our farm uses aloe in the products we make on site.
It's inspiration more than instruction: we want guests to leave with ideas they can play with at home.
Do it yourself, with your hands
For guests who want more than a walk-through, our hands-on aloe sessions let you harvest your own leaf, prepare the gel, and make a small product to take home. No prior experience needed — everything is guided, inclusive and relaxed.
These sessions work beautifully on their own, as part of a longer farm day, or combined with our aromatic garden experience.
